Prep your garden for fall with Mississippi and Arkansas Ag

Fall is here and harvest season is a busy time for all of our Mississippi and Arkansas farmers, as well as for gardeners. This is a time for all of us to reap the benefits of the hard work that we’ve put in all spring and summer. Make the most of these final weeks in your summer garden, and enjoy the fresh produce while you still can. As fall approaches, take time to plan out your fall garden and think ahead to what you may change this coming spring.

The Mississippi Ag / Arkansas Ag team has put together a list of prepping your garden for fall.

  1. Clean the garden. Make sure you clear weeds, rotting fruit, and plants that are no longer producing fruit, leaving plants that are still producing. Make sure to dispose of diseased plants and weeds, and compost the rest.
  2. Move any existing mulch layers to the side and loosen the soil. If your soil has become compacted through the summer, take a garden fork and fluff it up just enough for new plant roots to move and water to drain.
  3. Amend your soil. Work in compost and slow-release fertilizer, focusing on the areas where you know your fall plants will be placed. When you are finished amending your soil, make sure to rake it out to break up any clumps and even out the surface.
  4. Now you are ready to start planting and prepare for enjoying the fruits of your labor.

The Mississippi Ag / Arkansas Ag team hopes that you have a happy and fruitful harvest this year! We are always here with the right equipment to help you ensure a bountiful garden. If you need a part or repair, give our team a call and we will be happy to help you get you back in action as soon as possible. Visit one of our 15 locations, or give us a call today! (662) 314-9078
