The engine uses the latest technologies to optimize fuel economy, improve control and accuracy, and reduce environmental impact. The common rail system (CRS) optimizes fuel economy and reduces operating costs*. High-pressure injection atomizes fuel into finer particles which burn more completely. It results in improved fuel economy and a lower cost of operation.

The electronic control unit (ECU) provides optimum fuel control and accuracy. ECU monitors and controls the engine. It continuously monitors engine conditions and adjusts the fuel delivery accordingly to ensure optimum performance and emissions.

The engine comes with an after-treatment system. The system operates automatically. The exhaust filter consists of a diesel particulate filter (DPF) which captures particulate matter (PM) contained in the exhaust gas. Using a natural cleaning process, most of the PM trapped in the exhaust filter is eliminated by the heat of the exhaust stream generated by normal use. In situations of low temperature, engine speed, or load factor, an active cleaning cycle is initiated. In this cleaning cycle, the exhaust gas temperature is raised by injecting additional fuel during the exhaust stroke of normal vehicle operation to the diesel oxidation catalyst (DOC).

After many hours of use, the exhaust filter may require an ash removal service.

*NOTE: As compared to engines not using CRS technology.

DPF cleaning

Depending on the load that the tractor is under, as well as ambient temperature, humidity, and engine speed, the DPF may build up with particulate matter, thus requiring cleaning. Filter cleaning is determined by one of three factors:

  • A prescribed time-based estimation of needed filter cleaning
  • DOC/DPF pressure sensors
  • A particulate matter buildup estimation based on load conditions

Once one of the three conditions has been met, filter cleaning will occur.

There are three different types of filter cleaning processes:

  • Passive filter cleaning
  • Active filter cleaning
  • Parked filter cleaning

Passive filter cleaning

Passive filter cleaning occurs naturally when the engine is generating enough heat to oxidize particulate matter. This automatic process occurs continuously during normal operating conditions. No tractor icons or symbols appear on the display during passive filter cleaning.

NOTE:  Passive filter cleaning requires no operator involvement, and there is no interruption to tractor operation.

Active filter cleaning

If conditions (temperature, load, or speed) for passive filter cleaning cannot be achieved, then PM is removed using active filter cleaner.

To achieve the required conditions, exhaust temperature management (ETM) manages the initiation and duration of active filter cleaning. ETM can adjust numerous engine parameters and/or inject a small quantity of fuel into the exhaust stream for a short duration. The fuel turns to vapor and chemically reacts with the catalysts in the DOC to create heat to oxidize the PM.

It is important to note that at no time is the fuel in the DOC/DPF ignited, and there is no flame within the DOC/DPF.

Like passive filter cleaning, active filter cleaning requires no operator involvement, and there is no interruption to tractor operation.

Parked filter cleaning

In some instances where passive and active filter cleaning have not fully cleaned the PM from the system, a parked filter cleaning may need to take place. In general, the only time a parked filter cleaning will need to occur is when automatic filter cleaning has been disabled for an extended period of time and multiple warnings to engage filter cleaning were ignored or if the tractor has been used during light load conditions. Additionally, when the automatic filter cleaning process has been deliberately interrupted multiple times, or if active filter cleaning has failed numerous times due to a failed component, a parked filter cleaning may be requested. In these rare instances the operator will have to park the tractor and start the filter cleaning process.

The parked filter cleaning process needs to be activated based on usage and operation of the tractor. The process will take approximately 30 minutes.  See the operator's manual for more details.

This system constantly monitors the soot level of the tractor; making sure the tractor is always in peak performance condition.  This ensures high performance at all times.

NOTE: Number of hours since last regeneration and soot level percentage are viewable on LCD display.

Key features of the engine are:
  • Economical cast-in-block cylinder design for good cooling and long life
  • Direct fuel injection
    • Improves starting
    • Injects fuel directly on top of pistons for more efficient combustion
    • Develops more horsepower per liter (gallon) of fuel than indirect injection engines
  • Aluminum alloy pistons are lightweight to reduce connecting rod bearing loads and provide good heat transfer characteristics
    • Design permits tighter tolerances and neutralizes expansion of the piston, which reduces blow-by and noise from piston slap
    • Top rings are higher on the piston and a thinner head gasket is used to greatly reduce the volume of unburned waste gases and increase combustion efficiency
  • Timing gears and injector drive gears have a helical profile to reduce engine noise
  • Auto-bleed fuel system
    • There is no need to prime the system if the tractor runs out of fuel
    • The system will self-prime the injection pump, lines, and injectors, providing fast fuel recovery for easier starting
  • High-capacity lubrication system provides filtered oil, under pressure, to all engine bearings for long life

The 3E Tractors are available with a two-range hydrostatic transmission (HST) incorporated in a die-cast aluminum transmission case. Fluid under pressure transmits engine power to the drive wheels via a closed-loop pump and motor arrangement. Infinite ground speeds allow the operator to match the speed of the tractor to the job.

  • No clutching for fast and easy direction changes
  • Twin Touch™ foot pedals for quick and easy forward/reverse operation
  • Transmission oil cooler cools transmission oil for longer transmission life

Safety features of the HST include:

  • The tractor will only start with the range lever in neutral
  • The engine will shut off if the operator leaves the seat unless the range lever is in neutral
  • The engine will shut off if the operator leaves the seat and the power take-off (PTO) is engaged
Twin Touch™ foot controls
Twin Touch foot controlsTwin Touch foot controls

Key John Deere advantage - John Deere's Twin Touch foot controls offer several key advantages over competitive HST models tractors.

  • Some competitive hydrostatic tractors use a treadle pedal (toe-heel) design foot control for operation of the HST
    • Requires the operator to use both toe and heel to change direction, resulting in increased operator fatigue
    • The Twin Touch configuration also makes it easier to "inch" the tractor forward or rearward (i.e. when attaching to implements)
Optional cruise control
Optional cruise controlOptional cruise control

The 3E Series Tractors can be outfitted with an optional cruise control switch that is installed on the right-hand control console. This gives operators the ability to keep a constant speed when in transportation, field mowing, or other applications where extended use of the transmission is needed. This kit is very quick and easy to install for those who desire this feature.

One of the greatest operator concerns involves difficulty in attaching tractor implements. John Deere has addressed this issue with the iMatch Quick-Hitch.

The iMatch Quick-Hitch provides easy hookup and a guaranteed fit for all Category 1 implements designed to meet the ASAE Category 1 Standard S278.6 for quick-attach hitches.

  • All implements require a set of bushings in order for the attachment to fit and work properly with the iMatch Quick-Hitch. One set of bushings comes with the iMatch Quick-Hitch.

NOTE: All implements (box blades, tillers, rear blades, landscape rakes, etc.) require a set of bushings to enlarge the pin to fit with the iMatch hooks. Bushings of different lengths can be found in the parts system or through a bushing supplier (see dimensions below).

  • Upper bushing
    • Inside diameter of 0.76 in. to 0.77 in. (19 mm to 20 mm)
    • Outside diameter of 1.24 in. to 1.25 in. (31 mm to 32 mm)
  • Lower bushings

Low Pto power, bogs down when shredding field

4/5

Ive had my 3025 for about 6 months now. My field is about 6 acres. If you are going to use this to shred (I have the 60" frontier cutter that came with the pkg) I would definitely recommend gettting the 3032 or 3037. The 25 hp from the 3025 with about 17 hp to the pto just dont cut it. No pun intended. Seriously, the tractor bogs down bad. You have to go very slow, foot barely on the pedal, or the pto rpm drops way down. Or even stop moving forward for a few seconds to let it speed back up. Grass height was about 18" first cutting but only about 10" second cutting. I was going to get a 3032 or 3037 but a guy at work told me all new tractors over 25 up now had the exhaust requirement of recycling or soot burning (or whatever) cycle and the exhaust systems were always getting plugged. I talked to john deere and they said the cycle goes well with no exhaust system problems as long as you used low sulfur diesel, which is what you get at the gas station. But they also told me the 3025 would handle that field with no problems. Untrue. It takes me 10-12 hours to mow 6 acres when other tractors have mowed it in 2 or 3. Spend the extra 2000-3000 dollars and get the 3032 or 3037 . you'll be glad u did.

Pros

  • compact ease of use

Cons

  • low pto power cutter bogs down

Disappointed in the amount of plastic on tractor

3/5

The tractor performs very well (the 3025e). The layout of the instrument panel is easy to use. The seat is comfortable. The tractor is quiet running and starts with no problem. The disappointing part is the amount of plastic that is used on this tractor. It is a constant concern. Fearing that it will not hold up as well as metal. Extremely disappointed that be lights are mounted on the outside of the roll bar and are easily broken off. Again made of plastic and extremely expensive to replace. It would have been nice had a cage been made for the lights or for them to be built into the frame. With the amount that the Tractor cost, I expected to see less plastic on it. This is my first John Deere tractor purchase. Sad to say, even though the tractor performs well .I will not again spend so much money for so much plastic.

Pros

  • nice little tractor for a small parcel of land

Cons

  • too plastic and poor caution light mount and locat

good tractor - 3025E needs more hp to the PTO

4/5

I purchased a 3025E MFWD, with 300E loader on 6/21/2019. The overall quality of the tractor is great, well built & I LIKE the plastic body panels vs sheet metal (safer from small hits, metal & plastic will be equally damaged with big hits) my dealer - Virginia Tractor - ordered with the telescoping links on the hitch and with draw bar installed. Also had the rear-mounted fuel tank with gauge (I was anticipating the fuel tank under the hood). Cutting thick tall grass w/60 in finish mower (new blades), tractor really bogged down, had to cut VERY slow in L gear. The 3025E has a dash display w/PTO RPM & mine cont’d to drop from 540RPM to low 400s and I let off pedal. Attachments brochure from JD suggests the MX5 & RC2072 but I'm a little skeptical of after the performance of the 60 in finish mower. Too much power loss to PTO due to Hydro transmission. I used my JD770 gear drive w/5 ft bush hog on hilly ground w/heavy brush, it worked VERY WELL. I will have to try my 5 ft bush hog behind the 3025E for comparison, but i'm very skeptical that the 3025E will be sub-par. After one use I am having buyer's remorse because of not going a step up for more HP or Gear Drive. I think this tractor will be great for moving snow & other basic tasks on flat ground; probably even good for a pull behind finish mower as long as I don't let the grass get too tall (or smaller 48 in mower)

Pros

  • nice instrumentation
  • comfortable seat/platform

Cons

  • pto hp lacking

Great implement

4/5

I purchased a 3025E with loader in November of 2018, after buying 5 acres, 5 barns and an old farm house that would eventually be torn down. I also bought an auger, rotary cutter (bush hog), box scraper, pallet forks and receiver hitch. I had to finally buy and IMatch Quick Hitch. It greatly simplified hooking up every accessory. Since purchasing the tractor I’ve taken out 250’ of box hedge/900’ of fence row, cleaned out 3 of the 5 barns, leveled 1300’ of gravel road/driveway, continually mow 3 to 4 acres and I’ve dug several post holes. The tractor and all the implements have functioned flawlessly after 95 hours and 5 months. Sales, Parts and Service at TriGreen Equipment in Decherd, TN have been fantastic, from the initial purchase thru parts purchase, advice, assistance and service. Thank you John Deere for a superb tractor and accessories!!

Pros

  • ease of operation
  • fuel efficiency
  • serviceability
  • not very noisy

Cons

  • pto shaft can be difficult to connect

3025e issues

2/5

I had high hopes so Bought this 3025e tractor with all the attachments totaling 30K in 2018 the tractor was in the shop for issues keeping running/starting 3 times. Grounding issues and fuse issues. Sad part i cant troubleshoot myself because we cant get a computer to test without the dealer. if it was not under warranty i would be paying 150 to 300 for a visit. I loved my old JD ......but this new tech is not stable. who know what to expect after my warranty is up. Other than that it runs fine and happy with the performance. I am thankful for Keil's equipment (Livingston, NY) for coming to the rescue. Brad's team is very reliable and quick to repair. This is the one thing keeping me faithful to this purchase at the moment. Make sure you have a dealer you trust.

JD 3025E after 350 hours

5/5

Great little tractor, should have bought one years ago. It has its limits, but I have put it through the ringer. Almost a daily user, easy to transport. Front bucket has been a life saver. Added finish mower for around the barn, pond. Scrape blade, 2 bottom plow, cultivator and forks. WR Long 3rd function and grapple. Grapple is the real deal. After the storm here in NC with trees down, dealing with the limbs, brush was a breeze.

Surprising Capability

5/5

Great little tractor for the money!! I am surprised at the amount of work that can be done with this tractor. The loader works great, I also bought pallet fork attachment which I use as much as the loader. Great for lifting logs or big items to move around. Cranks easy, runs great with the hydro control pedals and power steering. Cant go wrong with this tractor is you are a homeowner with a need for a great working yard tractor.

Great tractor, ok loader

5/5

I bought my 3025e with the D160 loader brand new in December 2017, so i have almost had it a year and i just hit the 200 hour mark. For the most part, I love this tractor! I upgraded from a 1025r and it was well worth the trade in. My reason for trading in had nothing to do with the 1025r not being good, i just moved to a much larger property with different needs that the 1025r no longer met. I have a 25 acre hobby farm that i use the tractor on. I have about 10 acres of open fields that i use a rotary cutter on and it handles a 60" just fine. I also have a large 2 acre garden that it did a great job tilling in the spring and cultivating during the growing season. I also have the PTO spreader that i use to put fertilizer on my garden and winter cover crop seed down and it did great with that too. I have only had to do basic maintenance on the tractor so far but it is VERY easy to work on, and that is coming from someone who is just starting to work on equipment. My only complaint so far is the same as another reviewer: the D160 loader. The bucket will not stay curled back in position. Now my dealer did come out and work on it, and it improved drastically, but it still bounces around, especially with really heavy loads. For me, i just tap the curl back function on the controller whenever i am transporting something for any distance. I wish it didn't do it at all, but if this is the only issue, after they kinda fixed it, its something i can live with.

Pros

  • good bang for your buck
  • easy to maintain
  • plenty of power for a 25hp
  • easy to use

Cons

  • loader could be better
  • sometimes wish i had gotten the 3038e for more pto

Right size for most jobs

4/5

I am very happy with the tractor and FEl for the most part, the tractor does everything I want and more, the FEL bucket material is weak and thin, could be built a little heavier I bent the bucket messing round with a small stump about 4 in diameter. And as another reviewer stated the fel does bounce a lot, I have greased the pins but it still seems to have a lot of play in them. other than that I love this tractor just wished I had a few more attachments

2017 3025E w/ D160 Fork Bounce

1/5

3025E with D160 FEL. Bought brand new from local Deere dealership April of 2018. I purchased new as I did not have time to worry about having issues or having to work on something. Everything was great until started having issues with the loader. The loader will not stay curled and the best comparison I can give you is as you drive the bucket acts like a diving board and bounces and slams up and down. This is heavily increased when you have the pallet forks on. With all of the above after about 5 or 6 bounces you have to re-curl the bucket or it continues to get worse. Has been at the dealership 6 times now to resolve the issue and still nothing. Deere has now acknowledged the issue but tells the dealership it will be 3-4 months until they have a solution. I am not impressed with the quality of this loader at all and would highly suggest going a different route.

Pays its own way

5/5

I bought my 3025e last fall. Monthly I get enough small jobs to make the tractor payment. I use a 5ft rotary cutter, 6ft finish mower, 5ft box blade, all with ease. Best investment I have made in a long while.

Pros

  • affordable
  • compact
  • easy to operate

Great small tractor

5/5

I have 11 acres and have used this tractor to bush hog, move big rocks, and move large downed trees. My dealer talked me down from a bigger model and I was doubtful but have rarely had to put the hydrostat into low gear and this little, easy to maneuver tractor has not come close to letting me down. If you need more tractor then you probably need a dozer and all I can say is this is an unbelievably simple and perfect tractor.
